How long is the assessment?
Approximately 60 minutes:
- 30 minutes Dance
- 30 minutes Drama and Vocal
What happens while parents are meeting with the admin team?
While parents are meeting with our administrative team, students are participating in their Drama assessment.
This allows parents to focus on timetables and fees while students remain actively engaged.
Does my child need to prepare anything?
No preparation is required. Assessments are designed to observe natural ability, confidence and potential.
However, if a prospective student has received previous training, they are welcome to demonstrate a dance, monologue or vocal piece of their choice.
What should my child wear to the assessment?
Students should wear appropriate dancewear or comfortable clothing that allows them to move freely. No specific uniform is required.
Do students have to do exams?
No. Exams are optional, and students may train:
- Recreationally
- Vocationally, with examinations
We have provisions for both pathways, and families may move between them as goals evolve.
Exams are introduced gradually based on age, confidence and readiness. All students are supported through class assessments and, where appropriate, national or international exams.
Why are assessments grouped by age rather than grade?
Students come from a wide range of schooling systems and training backgrounds.
Grouping assessments by age, while taking previous training and experience into account, allows us to place students more accurately according to their developmental readiness, skill level and learning needs, rather than relying on unfamiliar or inconsistent grade terminology.
What is the Saturday programme?
The Saturday Junior School programme is a full day of classes, which may include:
- Tap
- Ballet
- Modern
- Street Dance
- Drama
- Musical Theatre
Additional selected weekday classes are also available in the vocational stream.
Do students have to attend weekday classes?
No.
However, students entering the vocational or examination stream are strongly encouraged to attend both Saturday and selected weekday classes to support technical development.
Do you offer private Drama or Musical Theatre tutorials?
Yes. We offer a limited number of private Drama and Musical Theatre tutorials. Due to capacity, tutorial places may not be immediately available and are offered as spaces open during the year.
Trinity College London at WTS
Private Drama and Musical Theatre tutorials at WTS follow the Trinity College London graded syllabus.
Trinity qualifications are internationally recognised and focus on:
- Performance skills
- Communication
- Confidence
- Creative expression
How are private tutorial fees billed?
- The initial tutorial assessment is invoiced separately.
- Once placement is confirmed, fees are incorporated into the term invoice.
Do students have to take Trinity exams?
No.
Trinity exams are optional and are offered as part of the vocational training pathway. Our team will advise when exam entry is appropriate based on readiness and goals.
What should my child wear for dance classes?
All students are required to attend classes in the correct dance attire, as outlined in our Junior School Dress Code.
Proper dancewear:
- Supports safe and correct technical training
- Encourages discipline and professionalism
- Allows teachers to assess alignment and posture accurately
For safety reasons, we do not recommend the wearing of jewellery during dance classes, as it may pose a risk to the student or others while moving.
Students’ hair should be neatly tied back and secured away from the face to ensure clear visibility and safe participation in all disciplines.

We kindly ask that families review the dress code carefully before purchasing items to ensure the correct attire is selected for your child’s age group and discipline.
Please note that dance shoes should not be worn outside of the studios, as this damages the soles.
