HISTORY OF WATERFRONT THEATRE SCHOOL

WTS was founded in 1992 by TV Personality, Delia Sainsbury and West End Theatre Director, Keith Galloway.

Delia Sainsbury, affectionately known as the ‘Golden Girl’ of South African television, started her career as a dancer, singer and actress on the London West End stage.  After relocating to South Africa in 1977, following an international tour of Jerome Robins’ West Side Story, Delia turned her attention to teaching in order to not be deported!

Together with her late husband, Keith Galloway, they started teaching classes in the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, and within three weeks it had grown into a school over 100 students.  The rest, as they say, is history!

Today WTS has established a formidable reputation as the leading facility for performance and teacher training in the performing arts and is acknowledged both nationally and internationally as a centre of excellence.
